L’Activité Mondiale Systèmes de Transport Terrestre fournit des solutions de signalisation ferroviaire pour les grandes lignes et les transports urbains, des systèmes intégrés de communication et de supervision, des solutions billettiques et les services associés.

Thales fournit des systèmes de commande de trains par télécommunications (CBTC) et des systèmes d’enclenchement destinés au secteur des transports en commun sur voie ferrée à l'échelle mondiale. Le centre de compétences pour la signalisation ferroviaire urbaine est situé au centre-ville de Toronto. Nous sommes le plus grand bureau situé au Canada et nous disposons d’un service pour chaque étape du cycle de vie du développement logiciel (SDLC). Cela comprend le logiciel, le matériel, la conception des systèmes, la vérification et la validation, les opérations, etc. Les équipes de services partagés dans les domaines des finances, des ressources humaines et des technologies de l’information sont également situées sur ce site. As a Research and Technology (R&T) Software Developer you bring your expertise in to develop, build, test and evaluate the next generation of driverless, autonomous vehicle solutions for the mass transit market.   You will work with a highly dynamic team in our research department to mature “proof-of-concepts” and support new product introduction for the global market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform all phases of development: model, compile, build, debug, testing, validation and documentation
  • To support the implementation of a set of progressively more complex ‘proof of concept’ platforms
  • To participate in ‘hands on’ development, integration, field testing and analysis of results
  • Improve cloud based computing strategies and provide further data analysis tools for analysis team
  • To document and defend results, designs and tradeoffs
  • Provide advanced analysis and visualizations for both internal and customer examination
  • To keep abreast of the latest research activities in our field and help apply the results into our products
  • To develop expertise in the mass transit and railway signaling domains and contribute to the product offering of Thales
  • To become a highly productive team member and team player, integrate new software in revenue systems and think entrepreneurially
  • Support overall design solution to product definition including system architecture, failure mode analysis and system redundancy for R&T projects
  • Provides support to product team and other departments as required to help with productization of new solutions
  • Use and setup tools and systems for data collection and evaluation of large datasets. Experience with ‘big data’ algorithms is an asset
  • Develop, analyze, implement algorithms for train applications
  • Design, code, integrate and test software applications required to support various R&T projects
  • Support and debug prototype hardware or SDKs
  • Analyze and write requirements using company standard methodology
  • Perform design reviews per R&T lifecycle
  • Possibly perform engineering testing in the field & investigate problems in the field
  • Comfortable in a highly dynamic/agile work environment
  • Comfortable working directly with our customers, including integration work in the field
  • Assist in providing leadership and motivation to staff
  • Become a subject area expert

Skills and Experience:

  • The successful candidate should possess anundergraduate or graduate degree inComputer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineeringor a related field
  • Over 5 years of relevant work experience or equivalent
  • Excellent command of C/C++, Linux also necessary
  • Working knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods & tools
  • Knowledge of communication protocols, networking basics, and security
  • Knowledgeable of object oriented techniques, design patterns, multithreading, socket programming
  • Proficiency with a least one scripting/productivity language, preferably Python
  • Familiar with software building tools like Cmake, MSBuilds
  • Familiar with source control tools (Git, Clearcase, etc.)
  • Good analytical skills, able to diagnose issues based on field logs & correlate events to failures
  • Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Cloud Computing experience: ElasticSearch, Postgres, VSphere would be an asset

  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Kibana, Plotly Dash, Grafana is an asset
  • Big Data experience optimizing databases for supporting/writing large amounts of data is a plus
  • Working knowledge optimizing databases for data-analysis queries would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of railway signaling techniques is a bonus
  • Experience with real-time, safety critical systems would be an asset
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and automated test tools is an asset
  • Hands on experience with GPS, RADARs, cameras, LIDAR is a plus
