Structural (Stress) Engineer

What does the job involve?

  • To carry out mechanical design and stressing activities in a team environment with other engineers.
  • Work collaboratively with production and procurement to produce cost effective, easy to manufacture design solutions.
  • Be able to advise authoritatively and credibly on the tasks undertaken.
  • Provide support to other departments as required, including Manufacture and Customer Support.

What are we looking for?

  • Essential to have the ability to tackle a wide range of structural problems, including Linear, Non Linear, Statics, Dynamics, Buckling, Fatigue, Contact, Impact, Hydrostatic Pressure Loading, Analysis using standard methods such as hand calculations and FEA.
  • Essential to have experience of the Team’s primary Analysis Tools, including MSC Patran, MSC Nastran, MSC Dytran and Pro Mechanica.
  • Essential to have a strong demonstrable experience of mechanical stressing using a wide range of material models, including Isotropic, Orthotropic, Anisotropic, Metals, Composites and Elastomers.
  • Essential to have experience in Mechanical Design using a 3D CAD system.

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance which can require further evidence to be provided.
