At our headquarters in Hengelo the Naval System Engineering department is responsible for the entire development cycle of our radar products, services and solutions, consisting of concept definition, system design, system integration and validation.
Within the Naval System Engineering department, the Solution Engineering Group performs all system engineering activities for the realization of a mission system on board of naval ships. This includes all integration activities with various subsystems, such as sensors, effectors, communication and navigation systems. The Solution Engineering Group has two teams: a main team in Hengelo and an affiliate team in Delft. To strengthen our team in Delft, we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated:
Lead System Engineer
About the job
In your job as Lead System Engineer you will have two main roles:
- You will be the overall technical responsible for a mission system for a particular customer
- You will perform day-to-day management of a team of engineers to bring that project to a success
As overall technical responsible for a mission system you will define – together with the capture leader – the initial configuration during the bid phase and continue into the project execution phase if the contract is awarded. During the project execution phase you will continue to shape the mission system and be the technical point of contact for the customer. You will hold design reviews with the customer and design/integration reviews with suppliers where necessary. Within Thales you will keep stakeholders informed on the technical solution and any changes therein. In principle you will remain technically responsible for the mission system until final acceptance by the customer.
In the project execution phase you will perform the day-to-day management of your engineering team. The team will consist of approximately 4-6 experienced professionals, ranging from product experts to integration specialists. The team size will vary with the complexity of the mission system. You will perform planning, monitoring and steering of the work package and hold yearly individual evaluations with the team members. Within Thales you will keep stakeholders informed on the work package progress.
Your main tasks are:
- Defining mission systems for specific customers
- Managing the technical solution throughout a project
- Hold technical reviews with customer and suppliers
- Managing a work package and the allocated engineering team
- Inform stakeholders in the internal organization
