Thales fournit des systèmes de commande de trains par télécommunications (CBTC) et des systèmes d’enclenchement destinés au secteur des transports en commun sur voie ferrée à l'échelle mondiale. Le centre de compétences pour la signalisation ferroviaire urbaine est situé au centre-ville de Toronto. Nous sommes le plus grand bureau situé au Canada et nous disposons d’un service pour chaque étape du cycle de vie du développement logiciel (SDLC). Job Description Summary

The Safety Verifier performs an independent review of the safety artifacts and ensures adherence to the safety methodology and strategy.  The Safety Verifier defines the scope of verification, based on the System Safety Plan and develops appropriate verification checklists for all safety artifacts and tasks.  The Safety Verifier’s mission consists in confirming through expert analysis that Safety artifacts are reaching the required level of excellence.


Key Accountibilities

The Safety Verifier performs independently the following verification activities:

  • Safety Integrity Level allocation for DUAT CBTC system/subsystem/subsystem software safety requirements
  • Review of the Hazard Log and associated Hazard Analyses and Safety Analyses performed on the DUAT CBTC system and its sub systems
  • Define the safety concepts for products and project solutions. Improve the System Safety Lifecycle with the evolution of best practices, tools and applicable standards.
  • Ensure that all product and project are developed, following the consistent and complete application of all safety concepts, principles, requirements, standards and processes during all phases of a development
  • Champion and defend core safety concepts; principles; and requirements at all levels of the organization. Organize and participate in multi-disciplinary workshops to promote safety knowledge and awareness in the company. Represent Thales at seminars and conferences to remain current with the state-of-the-art, and to network with and influence others involved in rail transportation and other safety-critical industries.
  • Responsible for ensuring all activities necessary to construct a complete Safety Case for the product and projects are identified and executed. Review and approve key safety artifacts, including Safety Plan and Safety Case.
  • Guide the product and project Safety team to address technical safety issues, to assess the risks associated with complex designs and novel functionalities.  Support the introduction of innovative design solutions and development techniques through the research and development (R&D) program.
  • Acts as primary technical safety authority for product and projects. Ensure the technical solutions meet the safety criteria to be safety certified. Act as the main interface with the customer’s Safety Assurance organisation and Independent Safety Assessor (ISA).
  • Liaise closely with the Heads of Disciplines (including Design Authority, Systems and Software Architects) to ensure consistent approach to resolving safety issues and concerns at a company level. Promote compliance to safety standards (EN 50126/128/129) and internal process and best practices.
  • Report technical safety issues to the Director RAMS Engineering and Safety Authority for Thales Canada. Participate in safety reviews as part of Safety Committee.
  • To ensure relevant new technology is incorporated in design of product and project solutions.
  • To provide innovative ideas for new products and enhancements to processes and best practices.
  • To ensure that technical solution meets the safety criteria, safety targets and compliance to safety regulatory requirements and standards (EN 50126/128/129).
  • To maintain high personal productivity while working interactively with other stakeholders.
  • To keep up to date on new analysis techniques and standards.

Key Requirements

  • B.Sc. Electrical Engineering; Computer Science or equivalent
  • + 10 years of experience in a senior technical role in train control systems, or automation in other industry, such as aircraft, defense, air traffic control, automotive.
  • Detailed knowledge of system safety lifecycle, system requirements definition, safety design concepts (system and software), safety and risk analysis.
  • Good understanding of systems engineering, software engineering and functional safety.
  • Extensive experience with safety standards (MIL, CENELEC, IEC, IEEE), best practices, safety methods and techniques (PHA, SHA, OSHA, FTA, FMEA/FMECA, HAZOP, HZL).
  • Good technical writing skills, excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel; DOORS, ClearQuest, modeling; software programming.
  • Knowledge of railway signalling systems, train control systems, fundamental principles in functional safety.
